The City of Springfield Mayor and Council has directed staff to negotiate a contract with Nancy Newton to serve as Springfield City Manager.

“After careful consideration, we have offered the position of Springfield City Manager to Nancy Newton,” said Springfield Mayor Christine Lundberg. “Nancy brings a wealth of experience and is very dedicated to public service. She’s also energized about Springfield and we want that for our community. We are excited to see how Springfield will continue to grow under her helm. We had incredibly talented leaders apply to be our next city manager. Each one brought their own skillsets and strengths, and prompted important discussions on who we see leading Springfield into the future. The Council and I were very impressed by all the candidates.”

On Monday, March 2, the Mayor and Council will discuss the contract in public session. A final contract could be approved at the March 16 Council meeting.

Newton has more than 20 years of local government management experience and currently serves as Assistant County Executive/Chief Operating Officer for Sacramento County, California, a position she has held since 2016. Before that, she served as Interim County Administrator for Clackamas County, Oregon, from July to September 2013, and Deputy County Administrator for Clackamas County from 2010 to 2016.

Newton holds a bachelor’s degree in management and organizational leadership from George Fox University and a master’s degree in public administration from Portland State University.
