The Springfield Public Library has expanded online and phone services in Spanish! In April, the Springfield Public Library launched an online library card sign-up process and a digital card that offers Springfield residents access from home to hours of free entertainment and educational options. Free Spanish-language library resources available with this card include:
- online books and audiobooks for all ages
- always-available digital classic films, children’s programs and documentaries
- popular music to stream or download
- live online tutors for kindergarten through college level help
- live online job coaches to help with resumes, interviews, career planning
Springfield community members can visit www.wheremindsgrow.org 24 hours a day to create a free digital library card. Those who have questions in Spanish about Springfield Library services can call the library at 541.726.3766 between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays for help in Spanish.
The State Library of Oregon has also expanded Spanish-language services that benefit the Springfield community. Spanish-speaking Oregonians can chat with a librarian in Spanish 24 hours, 7 days a week through the State Library of Oregon program Answerland: Chat en español at www.answerland.org. The program is free to all and supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act.
“We are excited to expand Answerland to Spanish-speaking Oregonians, and are grateful to the bilingual library staff at nine Oregon libraries who are providing staffing and support for the service,” said State Librarian Jennifer Patterson. “Now more than ever, it’s critical that Spanish-speakers have equitable access to trusted information and research assistance through Answerland.”
“We understand how important access to reliable information is to everyone,” said Springfield Public Library Associate Manager LuCinda Gustavason. “Our doors may be closed for now, but the Springfield Public Library is proud to continue offering services to the community in this time when we need it most.”
The expansion of library services is part of the Springfield Public Library’s effort to eliminate barriers to online books, movies, music and educational resources for Springfield-area community members while Governor Kate Brown’s “Stay Home, Save Lives” executive order is in effect.
