The Springfield Arts Commission is pleased to present Colorful Creations, an exhibition of digital drawings by artist Joshua Searl. The show will run from August 5-31, 2019 with an opening reception from 5-7 p.m., Friday, August 9 at Springfield City Hall, 225 Fifth Street. The reception, which is open and free to the community, includes light refreshments and live music by Donald Inglese.
Searl holds a degree in Digital Arts from the University of Oregon but has been drawing since he could hold a pencil. Joshua has long captured animals in his colorful work. Beginning with drawing dinosaurs almost exclusively until he was 5 or 6, Joshua then moved on to drawing video game characters, which continues to be a source of inspiration for him. Searl’s dark, whimsical, and mysterious aesthetic lends itself well to his drawings of birds, monster, and imaginary creatures of all sorts.
City Hall Gallery is seen by approximately 3,700 visitors each month. Since 1989, the gallery has featured monthly shows by regional artists chosen by the Springfield Arts Commission.
