Author Talk: “The Station Master’s Wife” by Sue DeMarinis

In 1884, the Oregon train depot’s original Station Master arrived in Ashland, married the daughter of a local pioneer family…… and then the scandals began! Oregon author Sue DeMarinis’ second novel, the historical fiction ‘The Station Master’s Wife’, is based on what she discovered about this family as she researched her original Ashland Victorian home. DeMarinis will present a reading and slideshow of the real characters and places in the novel at 2 p.m., Friday, March 6 in the Library Meeting Room. Copies of the novel will be available for purchase from the author.
All events are free and open to the community.

“Women Filmmakers of the Pacific Northwest” & ‘American Teen’

March is Women’s History Month; celebrate with a fun-filled afternoon of popcorn, pizza and a movie at the Springfield Public Library!
Join us at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 to watch the award-winning documentary American Teen, followed by the Girls’ Voices Matter presentation, “Women Filmmakers of the Pacific Northwest.” Directed by Nanette Burstein, American Teen follows five high school seniors in Warsaw, Indiana as they navigate school, relationships and their futures. The film was compiled from more than 1,000 hours of footage and won the Directing Award: Documentary at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. Girls’ Voices Matter Director Erica Goss said part of the impetus behind the movie screening and presentation is to highlight that while women make up 51 percent of the movie-going audience, only 4 percent of movie directors are women. “Women Filmmakers of the Pacific Northwest” is made possible by a grant from the Oregon Cultural Trust.
All events are free and open to the community.
