2020 Springfield Police Department K9 Competition Cancelled

In light of current health concerns and safety protocols, it is with deep regret that the Springfield Police Department K9 Unit has made the decision to cancel the 27th annual police dog competition scheduled for June 20th, 2020 at Silke Field.  Each year police dogs from around the state compete in timed events that include both the dog and the handler.  Events include an agility course, area search, handler protection, fastest dog, and suspect apprehension.  All proceeds from the event go toward the purchase of the Springfield K-9 Unit’s dogs, equipment, and training.

While we are very disappointed to make this announcement, we have a duty to care for department members, participating handlers, volunteers, and the amazing public that come out in massive support of our K9 unit each year.

While we navigate these trying times together, please know the Springfield Police Department K9 Unit has a profound appreciation for our citizens who support us not only at the competition, but throughout the year.  We will miss seeing everyone this June, and look forward to next year’s competition.
