On October 31st, 2019, at 8:34 p.m. Springfield Police and Eugene Springfield Fire responded to the 5700 block of Main Street for a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash. First responders arrived less than a minute after the first call was received by 911, and found an unconscious adult male lying beneath a Toyota Tundra pickup truck in the left lane of eastbound Main Street.

Witnesses report the male victim (identity withheld) left the south sidewalk and stepped into traffic approaching the intersection at 58th Street and Main Street. The victim was approximately one hundred feet west of the closest available crosswalk, and was subsequently struck by a motorist who immediately stopped and rendered aid.

The victim suffered potential life-threatening injuries and was transported to Riverbend Hospital for treatment.

The crash required investigators to shut down eastbound traffic on Main Street between Bob Straub Parkway and 58th Street for two hours. Neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors for the involved motorist.
