Springfield Celebrates Authors:

Bill Sullivan on ‘New Hikes in Oregon’

A free presentation and book signing in downtown Springfield brought to you by the Springfield Public Library and the Springfield Library Foundation

Take a hike to the Springfield Public Library at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 19 to hear from local author and hiking guru, William L. Sullivan.  Sullivan will take us on a virtual slide show tour of new and changed trails he discovered while updating his “100 Hikes” Oregon guidebooks. Although some trails closed in recent years because of fire, Sullivan balances that news with descriptions of an equal number of new and overlooked trails. Along the way you will visit a reopened waterfall hike in Central Oregon, learn what’s changed in the Columbia Gorge, sample a new section of the Oregon Coast Trail, and explore hot springs in Eastern Oregon. As always, Sullivan spices his talk with anecdotes about history, wildflowers, and geology.  Sullivan is the author of 22 books about history, mystery, and adventure. His journal of a 1000-mile hike across Oregon, “Listening for Coyote,” was chosen by the Oregon Cultural Heritage Commission as one of Oregon’s 100 most significant books.

Springfield Celebrates Authors is an annual series presented by the Springfield Public Library highlighting local, national, and international authors.  Over the course of five months patrons can hear from published trail guides, essayists, poets, Young Adult Authors and Sports Journalists.  The next Springfield Celebrates Authors event will feature poet and essayist Wendy Willis on Saturday, February 23 at 2 p.m.

All events are free and open to the public.
