NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT: On Friday April 10, 2021 at 9:03pm K9 Officer Oleary and Officer Lane located Michael Uzelac in the 2300 block of Olympic St. He was wanted for stealing motorcycle equipment from a prior case. He quickly fled the scene on foot. Early on in the foot chase, he either threw or dropped a loaded semi-automatic weapon. The Officers observed this and continued pursuing him. He ran away from Olympic St and down a darkened road. Uzelac has prior convictions for assaulting a Springfield Police Officer while in possession of a gun. Officers were faced with a potential lethal encounter. Officers caught up to Uzelac in the parking lot of Jerry’s home improvement and chose to try using a Taser to safely take him into custody. This tactic was successful and he was lodged at the Lane County Jail on the listed charges. The Gun and a portion of the stolen motorcycle equipment were recovered.
