The Springfield Arts Commission is pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by artist Jerry Ross. The show, Paintings Inspired by Holland, Italy and Oregon, will run from May 1-31, 2019 with an opening reception from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 10. The reception, which is open and free to the community, includes light refreshments and live music by Rachael & Ben Young.

Although Ross is a native New Yorker, he has lived in Oregon since 1977 and is best known as a “master of portraiture,” capturing the essence of his subjects in spare compositions and palettes. He and his wife travel to Italy often, where his work in the “…time-honored tradition of the ‘veduta,’ views and cityscapes that express underlying messages about life and the quality of life,” have made him popular. In addition to being an artist himself, Ross is a passionate arts activist well known for his work with the artist collective New Zone and the popular Salon des Refuses show he founded in 1991.

The Springfield Arts Commission invites the community to attend the gallery reception from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 10 to view the exhibition and enjoy music by Rachael & Ben Young. Ben and Rachael come from the Irish traditional session music background, and for 15 years have played together with many band and dance groups across Canada and throughout Washington, Oregon, and California.

City Hall Gallery is seen by approximately 3,700 visitors each month. Since 1989, the gallery has featured monthly shows by regional artists chosen by the Springfield Arts Commission. The Commission issues a public call to artists each year. More information is available on the website, springfieldartscommission.org.
