We’ve got Virtual Reality, big screen video games, board games and more. Come play a favorite or learn a new game. Teens – join us at 4:30 on Tuesday, February 5 in the Library Meeting Room at Springfield Public Library, 225 5th St, Springfield.

The Library offers a weekly gathering for teens every Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Join us to hang out, enjoy a snack, learn new skills and have fun. This event is free and intended for teens ages 12 and up. Teen programs are made possible by our generous Friends of the Springfield Library.

Plank Town Presents: Springfilm On the Move

Come for a drag queen guided ride through the Australian desert in a lavender-colored bus! Please join us at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, February 7 at the Wildish Theater for the Springfilm On the Move free screening of The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert. The film follows Sydney-based performer ‘Tick’ Belrose (Weaving), who accepts an offer to perform his drag act – Mitzi Del Bra – in Alice Springs, a remote town in Central Australia. Joined by fellow performers Bernadette, a transgender woman played by Terence Stamp, and the obnoxious Adam/Felicia Jollygoodfellow (Pearce) they encounter a host of both friendly and homophobic Australians as they travel through the Outback. Winning the Oscar for best costume design in 1994, ‘Priscilla’ was recognized for introducing LGBTQ themes to a mainstream audience and has since been turned into an award-winning musical.

Watch the film and stay for a short after-film discussion! The movie and discussion are free to attend. The ongoing film series is presented by Plank Town Restaurant and Brewery and coordinated by a partnership between the Springfield Library, the Springfield Library Foundation, and Willamalane Park & Recreation District.

Springfilm On the Move continues on March 28, 2019 with The Dark Crystal. Through Aug. 2019, Springfilm features monthly free screenings of a film where travel is part of the plot.

Family Fun with Cuentos Bilingual Storytime

Come to Saturday Cuentos at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 9. Join us as we read Spanish and English language books and play bilingual games, sing songs, and do a craft.

Acompáñenos para Cuentos Sabatinos el sábado, el 9 de febrero a las 11 am para leer libros en español e inglés, hacer actividades bilingües,  juegos y canciones bilingües, y hacer manualidades. Families of all ages are welcome! ¡Se invita a las familias con niños de todas las edades!

Spanish Language Book Group at the Springfield Library

The Springfield Public Library is offering a monthly Spanish Language Book Group. Pick up a copy of the book now and attend from 3-5 p.m., Saturday, February 9 to discuss Ida y vuelta by award-winning Mexican author Elena Poniatowska. In 2013 Poniatowska won the Cervantes international literature award and in her latest book she doesn’t disappoint. Now at 86 years old, Poniatowska has arranged a collection of incredible interviews with some of the best Latin American writers and artists. Among those included in this book: Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Juan Rulfo, Alejandro Jodoroski and Jaime García Teres.

This book group is open to the public and free book group copies of the book can be borrowed by participants who preregister at the library. The group will meet two times to discuss Poniatowska’s book: January 12 and February 9, 2019. Preregistration is suggested, but not required. Ven a la reunión del grupo de lectura en español para charlar sobre “Ida y vuelta” por Elena Poniatowska

La Biblioteca Pública de Springfield ofrece un grupo de lectura en español para adultos. Venga a la biblioteca para prestar una copia del libro Ida y vuelta por la destacada autora mexicana Elena Poniatowska. Acompáñenos al reunión el sábado, el 9 de febrero, 3-5 p.m. para charlar sobre el libro Ida y vuelta y para conocer a otras personas en la comunidad quienes quieren explorar libros en español.
