Body-Worn Camera Program

In May of 2021 the Springfield Police Department began the implementation of body-worn cameras for our officers. This technology has been an opportunity to showcase and enhance the department’s commitment to transparency while further strengthening the level of trust that exists between the men and women of the Springfield Police Department and our community.

SPD Department Policy on Body Worn Cameras

“To proactively provide information on questions and concerns community members often have about body worn camera programs, the below information was prepared. Oregon Revised Statute 133.741 addresses many issues, including privacy concerns, recordings, retention requirements, and equipment operation. Please note that responses to some FAQs are subject to change as the SPD develops its policies and procedures.”
