Introducing the Clean Water Garden program
Springfield community members love gorgeous gardens and luscious lawns. It’s unfortunate that, if we’re not careful, common gardening practices can introduce pollution like chemicals and debris to your area. Then, when it rains, these can wash into local water supplies and wreck havoc on the ecosystem in town and downstream.
Springfield’s Clean Water Garden program helps residents explore new ways to have it all: nice yards, healthy gardens and families, clean water in and around the City, and smart, long-term investments on private property. It does this by providing conversation starters and support on what works in Springfield.
The Clean Water Garden program is managed by the environmental experts on Springfield’s Stormwater Team. They know Springfield’s unique landscape and water systems, they’re here to help keep Springfield’s waterways clean, and they’re here to help you do the same.

If you have installed one of the following Clean Water Garden systems on your property, we’d love to recognize you:
- Rain garden.
- Rain harvesting.
- Porous surface that replaced a hard surface.
Click this box to get started! We’ll arrange a visit and then qualified projects will get the City of Springfield’s recognition package. It includes a metal “Clean Water Garden” sign for your yard and gardening gloves.
Available to residents of Springfield, Oregon, only. Required stormwater facilities do not qualify; the recognition package is only for voluntarily installed systems. Thank you for your excellent contribution to cleaner water!
