Helping Light Downtown

The City’s Helping Light Downtown donor program is a personalized way to help offset the maintenance and operating costs of the beautiful lights throughout Downtown Springfield. Community members and businesses have an opportunity to make a donation and receive a plaque that will be installed on one of the new Downtown street light poles.

Each 4 x 6 inch plaque is available for a $500 donation and includes:

  • Name of community member or business making a donation.
  • Logo of the business making a donation.
  • “Helping Light Downtown Donor Program” and City logo

Plaques will be placed on the light pole approximately 4 feet above street level and will remain for the life of the light pole. Plaques are powder coated and use anodized aluminum with UV print.

Interested in buying a plaque or multiple plaques? Fill out an application.

Plaque Donors will have the option of choosing the location of the pole on which their plaque will be placed. A map of all Downtown lights is provided along with the application. Plaques will be etched and finished by Discover MAC from Eugene, Oregon and will be installed by the City’s Operations Division.

About the Downtown Street Lights

Lined throughout Downtown Springfield are about 100 street lights that harken back to a time gone by. While they have a retro feel, they’re actually using advanced technologies.

We purchased the decorative light fixtures from the City of San Diego for $85 each then renovated them for LED lighting. The LED light source allows for lower energy consumption, longer life span, smaller size, faster switching, and less breakage. Combined, this creates a high-quality light fixture at a low cost for City staff to install and operate.
