The Springfield Police Department “Go Live” with body worn cameras on May 26th, 2021 at 4PM.

The Springfield Police Department is proud to share that effective May 26, 2021 at 4pm, sworn officers will begin using body-worn cameras.
The implementation of body-worn cameras provides a modern policing tool that supports the department’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and strengthening community trust. “SPD is excited to have body cameras,” said Lieutenant George Crolly. “We are grateful to the community and Springfield City Council for the support of these technologies and look forward to the increased documentation and opportunity to positively impact public confidence.”
Every SPD Patrol Officer will be issued a body-worn camera, which will be worn on an officer’s uniform when providing patrol services or other uniformed service. Officers will activate body cameras in accordance with statute and department policy. For additional information regarding the SPD Body-Worn Camera policy and program, please see the SPD body-worn camera webpage.
