Case Number: 19-3336
Date/Time: April 29th, 2019 @ 2308 hrs
Arrested: Darrin Jacob Elder (26 Years of Age)
On April 29th, 2019, at 11:08pm Springfield Police Officers responded to the McDonald’s restaurant on Mohawk Blvd. for a report of an armed robbery at the drive-through window. Darrin Jacob Elder walked in front of a patron’s vehicle and approached the open window as an employee was preparing to hand the patron their order. Elder was holding a backpack in one hand and a large knife in the other, and demanded cash from the employee.
The quick-thinking employee shut the window just as the patron realized what Elder was doing. The patron then used his front bumper to nudge Elder away from the window causing Elder to abandon the robbery attempt. Elder fled on foot and was followed by the Good Samaritan who helped foil the robbery.
Witnesses maintained observation of Elder and helped direct responding officers to Elder’s location. Elder was taken into custody and later lodged at the Lane County Jail for Robbery in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Criminal Mischief, and Menacing.
