NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On 10-02-19 at 0301 hrs a Springfield Police Officer contacted Olallie Franklin Stahlwellborn inside his vehicle in the Springfield Walmart parking lot. Stahlwellborn had been reported as a missing person out of Eugene. The report indicated Stahlwellborn may be suicidal and in possession of a handgun. Additionally, Stahlwellborn had an active warrant for his arrest issued by the Eugene Municipal Court for failing to appear on a Disorderly Conduct charge.
Stahlwellborn was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. He refused to exit the vehicle when told to do so. He was informed of the warrant for his arrest and told numerous times to exit the vehicle but he continually refused.
Patrol vehicles were set up in front of, and behind, Stahlwellborn’s vehicle to prevent the possibility of him trying to drive away. After 20 minutes of talking to him he agreed to exit the vehicle. He was told to exit via the passenger door where he was seated. Instead he crawled to the driver’s seat and quickly started the vehicle. He put the vehicle in gear and rammed the front patrol car. He then put the vehicle in reverse and then rammed the rear patrol car.
The driver’s window was broken out and K9 handler Officer Kendrick deployed K9 Gryff through the broken window to take Stahlwellborn into custody. Stahlwellborn hit K9 Gryff several times in the head. Additional officers were able to enter the passenger side of the vehicle and extract Stahlwellborn from the vehicle. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle. A loaded 9mm handgun was found on him. Also located on him were a digital scale along with numerous packages of heroin and methamphetamine.
Stahlwellborn was treated at the hospital for minor injuries. He admitted that his behavior was an attempt to get the police to kill him. He was lodged at the Lane County Jail on the above charges.
K9 Gryff did not sustain any injuries & is doing fine.
