Traffic Control Maintenance and Construction

Construction and maintenance of traffic signs, traffic signals and pavement markings are the primary activities of the Maintenance Division's Traffic Control Maintenance and Construction program. Providing traffic control for the University of Oregon football games, festivals, parades, and other special projects is another activity of this program. Along with the City's 39 traffic signals, the City has contracted with the State of Oregon to perform maintenance on 25 State traffic signals within the City limits. The City recently retrofitted 700 traffic signal heads and pedestrian heads with Light Emitting Diodes (LED). LED's are more energy efficient than the incandescent lamps previously used. The LED life span is approximately 10 years. The annual electric savings by making these changes is $17,000.
